Sustainable City Year Capstone:
Private vs Public Water
As a part of the ENSTU 471 course, Projects for a Sustainable City Year, and in collaboration with the City of Pacific Grove, EPIC-N, and the Sustainable City Year Program, I worked to analyze the differences between publicly and privately owned water. The members of the ENTSU 471 course worked to collect data for over 100 cities and my group of three other members and I then decided to focus our efforts on examining differences between private and public water. We found that public water is more common in California, cities with public water spent more money on infrastructure per capita, and there is weak to no relationship between water source ownership and income. Our recommendation is that cities in Monterey County that are currently served by California American Water look to the cities of Felton and Ojai as they consider transitioning to public water. Please take a look at the recording of my presentation which was a part of the CSUMB Fall 2020 Applied Environmental Science Capstone Festival on December 17th, 2020.
